Temple cleaning

Oratorical competition

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Trust is organising an `Oratorical Competition for College Students' in English on October 29 at 9.15 a.m. at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, East Mada Street, Mylapore. This is to celebrate the 131st birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Each college is requested to send two representatives to participate in the competition. Free eye camp

Rajan Eye Care Hospital, in association with Rotary Club if Madras, T Nagar, conducted a free eye screening camp at Kotturpuram on October 8. More than 170 patients were screened for various eye problems like cataract and refractive errors by a team of doctors from Rajan Eye Care hospital.

Lions Service Day

World Lions Service Day was recently celebrated at Annai Ilam, a senior citizens home at East Mada Street, Mylapore.

Lions Club distributed sarees and dhotis to the residents, and organised a Carnatic music entertainment programme.

The new Leo office bearers at Leo Club of Padi Shenoy Nagar at Valliammal Matriculation HSS, Anna Nagar, were also inducted.

Birth centenary celebrations

The year-long birth centenary celebrations of renowned Sanskrit scholar U.Ve. Mahavidwan Saralakavi Padur Raghavacharya Swami was inaugurated by Sri Hare Krishna Satapathy, Vice-Chancellor, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupathi, at Sri Ahobila Mutt Sanskrit College, Maduranthakam. AIR Deepavali programmes

All India Radio, Chennai, will conduct a `Patti Mandram' and `Classical Carnatic Vocal Concert' as Deepavali celebrations on October 12 at Multi Track Studios, AIR from 5 p.m.
