MANGALORE: K.P. Gopinath of the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the byelection from Jalsoor constituency in Sullia Taluk Panchayat. The seat fell vacant following the death of A.S. Vijay Kumar, who was the vice-president of the taluk panchayat. Mr. Gopinath secured 2,471 votes out of 4,226 votes cast. Shymala Mohan of the Congress secured 1,673 votes. Hameed, an independent candidate, secured 20 votes. Sixty-two votes were declared invalid.
