Held for murders, carjacking

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Six young men allegedly involved in cases of murder and carjacking were arrested following an encounter with the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police at Vasant Kunj here on Tuesday.

The gang mainly targeted luxury vehicles attached with call-centres.

Acting on a tip that a criminal, Ashwini, and his accomplices would gather near a petrol pump on the Delhi-Gurgaon National Highway, a team led by Inspector Rajpal Dabas laid a trap and spotted six suspects waving at a call-centre vehicle.

Subsequently the police team asked them to surrender.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi) Ravinder Yadav, Ashwini opened fire at the police party.

However, he and others -- Gajraj, Chandan Singh, Rakesh Joshi, Man Singh and Naresh Kumar - were overpowered.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in carjacking cases.

On at least two occasions they allegedly took a lift in call-centre vehicles, abducted the drivers and killed them upon reaching a desolate place.
