Woman stabbed

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old woman was brutally stabbed to death allegedly by her husband at Patel Nagar in West Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday. The accused claimed that his wife was having an extra-marital affair. The murder took place around 3-30 a.m. when Kiran was sound asleep. Her husband Rakesh allegedly stabbed her and fled from the scene. Later in the day the police received a call from him in which he purportedly confessed to having murdered Kiran as he had seen her in a compromising position with another person. . Rakesh told the police that he would surrender soon.

Two suicides reported

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man and a Class XII student reportedly committed suicide in tow different cases on Wednesday. Nirbhay Singh, a constable with the Air Force, was found hanging from a tree inside the Aya Nagar Air Force base premises. In the second case, depressed over his poor performance in the examination, 17-year-old Vishal Gaur allegedly hanged himself to death at Gokalpuri on Wednesday.

Protest against Act

NEW DELHI: Taking to the streets in support of Irom Sharmila's six-year long hunger strike seeking repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Manipur, activists and students drawn primarily from the North Eastern State conducted demonstrations at ITO and later near the 10 Janpath residence of United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday. At both the places, the protestors were detained for breaking prohibitory orders. The demonstrators first assembled at ITO around 11 a.m. and distributed pamphlets to passers-by asking them to join them in their struggle.

It was after nearly two hours of protest, that the police moved in and detained the protestors. Thereafter, some of the activists and students went to 10 Janpath and held a demonstration there. The police was taken completely aback by the unannounced protest and subsequently the protestors were detained.

Heroin seized

NEW DELHI: Three alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, have been arrested from different parts of the Capital by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police in the past couple of days. The police claim to have seized over 23 kg of heroin from their possession.

On Tuesday, the police received a tip-off that one Ayub from Rajasthan, engaged in heroin smuggling in Delhi and West Bengal, would come to Dhaula Kuan here to deliver a consignment. A trap was laid and the accused arrested after the police recovered 6 kg of heroin from his possession. In another case, the police arrested Saraswati, wife of Radhey Shyam, and allegedly recovered 255 gm of heroin from her possession on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, acting on a tip-off that a drug peddler from Rampur in U.P. would come to Delhi to deliver a heroin consignment, a team under the supervision of ACP Norbu Tshering laid a trap and arrested Mohammad Suhail near Gagan Cinema. The police allegedly recovered 17 kg of heroin from his possession.
