School Notes

Vector control pledge

As part of the vector control drive launched by the Government, students of the Government Model Boys High School took a pledge to eradicate mosquitoes. At a function held on the school premises on Wednesday, Health Director T.K. Kuttamani administered the pledge. Additional Director M.K. Jeevan delivered a lecture on prevention of vector-borne diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya. He exhorted the students to observe a `dry day' every week to identify and destroy sources of larvae.

PTA president Umachandra Babu, deputy DMO S. Radhakrishnan, State mass education and media officer Sobha Ganesh, headmaster Chandrasekharan Nair, Principal Mohammed Haneefa, additional headmaster Sabu T. Thomas and district RCH officer Sheela Sadasivan were present on the occasion.

Battle of wits

Fourteen schools in Thiruvananthapuram took part in the `Carme Quest 2006,' an inter-school quiz competition organised by Carmel Girls' Higher Secondary School in the city on Wednesday. Sarvodaya Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School, Loyola School, St. Thomas Central School, St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School and Kendriya Vidyalaya qualified for the finals. Harikrishnan R and Deepak Mohan of St. Thomas Central School bagged the first prize, while the second and third positions went to Kiron Noronha and Vishnu M.J. of Loyola School and Athul Krishna M.R. and Jiju Krishna R of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School respectively. Chief Secretary John Mathai gave away the prizes. Students who scored A plus in all subjects in the SSLC examination and Heeral L. Vijay who secured 11th rank in the Higher Secondary Examination were felicitated.
