KOCHI: Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi has said the industrial environment in Kerala was showing positive signals as the workers have done away with the practice of resorting to strikes over minor issues. The workers as well as managements have a better understanding of the situation, he said at a function organised by the Kerala Management Association (KMA) here on Wednesday for distributing its Management Leadership Award, 2006. The Minister recalled that several strikes in the past were the result of stiff positions adopted by either the managements or workers. Sometimes the workers were overenthusiastic and he, as the union leader, had to quit his position. He congratulated Barrister P.K. Kurian, the winner of the award. Sunil K. Zachariah, president of KMA, presided over the function. Reading the citation of the award, N.R. Pai, former president of KMA, said Mr. Kurian was the force behind strategies adopted by various managements to counter problems facing them. M.M. Murugappan, Chairman of Carborundum Universal Limited, spoke. Accepting the award, Mr. Kurian recollected some of his experiences.
