`IT, ITeS sectors leading hirers'

Corporate Reporter

CHENNAI : Ma Foi Global Search Services Ltd., a human resources consulting company, launched the fifth track of its `Ma Foi Employment Survey' (METS) here on Tuesday. K. Pandia Rajan, Managing Director, Ma Foi Management Consultants Ltd., told press persons that the METS, which was initiated in 2004, was a comprehensive study of employment trends in the national organised sector.

Commenting on the findings of the survey, Mr. Rajan said that the IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS) sectors continued their bullish hiring at 11.91 per cent during January-June 2006, followed by the construction segment at 6.43 per cent. IT and ITeS, construction, communication and transport, retail and other services were the major hirers, he added.

The survey, which covered 2,143 companies, had been "revamped" by linking it to the macro economic trends that facilitated industrial growth and employment generation, Mr. Rajan said. While the previous tracks spanned 16 industry sectors, the latest METS had adopted a new format that covered nine broad industry sectors through two channels, he said.

A sample survey that recorded employers' responses regarding the net increase or decrease in their employee numbers was conducted by TNS. The second channel was a `macro economic model,' which was developed by the company in collaboration with the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

It was a statistical model based on economy and industry-specific factors to assess the growth in the total organised labour market, he added.
