Here's someone who wants to set up a hospice for Alzheimer's patients
|
Bangalore:
Approximately one per cent of those aged above 65 in a city like Bangalore could be affected by senile dementia, leading to Alzheimer's disease, a disorder identified exactly a hundred years ago.
This progressive degeneration of mental and physical faculties causes a lot of distress to the aged and their immediate families.
President of Karnataka Association for Psychiatric Disability M. Ranganathan, who has promoted a Family Fellowship Society for people with close relatives facing psychiatric problems, wants the service extended to the families of Alzheimer's patients.
"We want to set up a support group of those who have to live with or take care of persons with this disorder. Eventually, we can also think of a training programme for caregivers,'' he says.
Those who wish to help in setting up this support group can call 98860 1334 or email nathanarekere@yahoo.co.in or paispy@yahoo.com
