KATHMANDU: The High Level Probe Commission (HLPC) formed to investigate the atrocities committed during the April uprising has sent a set of questions to King Gyanendra, seeking clarifications on his role in the repression. The commission spokesperson Dilli Raman Acharya said, "We have sent questions to the King." King Gyanendra presided as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers during his 14-month direct rule.
It is not clear whether the commission has set any deadline for the King to reply. It is also not clear whether the King would send the reply personally. The commission was formed by the Government in April after the King conceded power after a people's movement during which 21 persons were killed.
Meanwhile, talks between the top leaders of the Seven-Party Alliance and Maoist rebels continued on Thursday but failed to reach any agreement.
The leaders will meet again on Sunday.
After the talks, Maoist chief negotiator Krishna Bahadur Mahara said, "We have made progress in the talks and are closer to an agreement."
Similarly, the Government's chief negotiator Krishna Prasad Sitaula said the two sides felt a need for more homework to settle the contentious issues.
