On Section 377

This refers to the article "Human rights versus Section 377" (Oct. 12). Every human being has the right to sexual preference. India, being a democracy and diverse in culture and origin, should take the debate on de-criminalising homosexuality forward and emulate other countries that have already removed the legal restrictions on it. Accepting people as they are is the first step towards recognising human values.

Sripriya Padmanabhan,
Bangalore

In the name of freedom, homosexuality cannot be given legal sanction. Buttressing the HIV/AIDS problem with this behaviour is unacceptable as medical records prove that a majority of HIV/AIDS cases are the result of unprotected sex between men and women.

J. Jaya Kumar,
Chennai
