ONGC, BPCL triumph

HYDERABAD: ONGC men and BPCL women emerged champions in the 28th all-India PSPB inter-unit badminton tournament at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here on Thursday. ONGC defeated OICL 3-2 in the men's final while BPCL got the better of IOCL 2-1 in the women's final.

The results (finals):

Team championship: Men: ONGC bt OICL 3-2 (Rohan Castelino lost to Nikhil Kanetkar 20-22, 16-21; Siddarth Jain lost to P. Kashyap 17-21, 14-21; Rupesh Kumar & V. Diju bt P. Gopi Chand & Jaseel P. Ismail 21-10, 21-19; B. Chetan Anand bt Abhinn Shyam Gupta 21-11, 21-8; B. Chetan Anand & Thomas Kurien bt J.B.S. Vidhyadhar & Markose Bristow 13-21, 21-10, 21-10).

Women: BPCL bt IOCL 2-1 (Saina Nehwal lost to Trupti Murugunde 21-17, 21-23, 13-21; Shruthi Kurien & Gutta Jwala bt Trupti Murugunde & Aparna Balan 21-9, 21-7; Aditi Mutatkar bt B.R. Meenakshi 21-11, 13-21, 23-21).

Veterans: ONGC bt EIL 2-1 (Sanjay Kumar lost to Ranjan Gosh 18-21, 17-21; Tilak Raj & A.K. Sharma bt Y.K. Sinha & Ranjan Gosh 21-18, 21-15; Dilip Sukhtankar bt Y.K. Sinha 21-13, 21-15).
