Prakash, Srenika win

HYDERABAD: L. Surya Prakash and Ch. Srenika, both from Hyderabad, emerged champions in boys' and girls' sections respectively in the 35th junior and youth National carrom championships held in Patna.

Surya Prakash defeated Nilesh Kori of Maharashtra 25-23, 14-25, 25-14, while Srenika got the better of Khushboo Rani of Jharkhand 24-25, 25-15, 25-23 in the girls' final.

Pankaj Pawar of Maharashtra and Rebecca Devi of Manipur finished third in boys' and girls' sections respectively.

Easy for HPS

HPS (Begumpet) recorded a nine-wicket win over Mahbub College HS in the Parle Cup inter-school under-17 cricket tournament here.

The scores: Parle Cup (u-17): Mahbub College HS 61 (Manoj five for 19, Chaitanya four for 11) lost to HPS Begumpet 61 for one (Mohit Kumar 49 not out).

St. Mary's Jr. College, Himayatnagar, 191 (Aashir Mehtab Khan 30, Naveen Siddiqui 40) bt St. Joseph's PS 120 (Basharath 31, Naveed Siddiqui five for 20, Lekh Raj three for 30).

Rayudu to lead

A.T. Rayudu will lead Hyderabad under-22 team in the South Zone inter-State championship for the P. Ramachandra Rao Trophy here from October 14 to November 2.

Narsi Reddy basketball

AWASA table tennis

The sixth Anand Nagar Welfare Association Anantha Naryana Reddy and Rameshwaramma memorial State-ranking open table tennis tournament will be organised from Oct. 26 to 29 at the Anand Nagar Academy (Khairatabad). Entries close on October 20. Competitions will be held in singles for men and women, boys and girls in different age groups.

Rapid chess

Chess Players' Association of India (AP Wing) will organize a two-day AP rapid open championship on October 16 and 17. The total prize money at stake is Rs. 10,000. Spot entries are accepted. Top three prize winners will be selected for the Pune knockout rapid championship, where the players will have an opportunity to grab an assured prize money of Rs. 2,500 (minimum) with the winner getting Rs.1 lakh. Tennis tournament
