Guru Nanak College enters quarterfinals

Karaikudi: Guru Nanak College (Chennai) posted a thumping 5-0 win over Alagappa University College of Physical Education (Karaikudi) and entered the quarterfinals of the second annual Veerapandian Memorial Trophy State-level invitation inter-collegiate hockey tournament organised by Karaikudi Town Hockey club at AUCPE ground here on Thursday.

VOC College in last four

VOC College (Tuticorin) entered the semifinals of the Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar Cup State-level invitation inter-collegiate cricket tournament organised by Dr. Sivathi Adithanar College of Physical Education scraping past TDMNS College (Kallikulam) by one wicket with two balls to spare at Tiruchendur on Thursday.

The scores (quarterfinals):

TDMNS (Kallikulam) 126 for nine in 25 overs (Amess 43, Parthasarathy three for nine) lost to VOC (Tuticorin) 127 for nine in 24.4 overs (P. Rajesh five for 17); MDT Hindu (Tirunelveli) 104 for seven in 25 overs (Antony 38, Arun four for 16) lost to Adithanar College of Arts and Science (Tiruchendur) 106 for five in 23 overs.

Spate of withdrawals

Withdrawals marked the second day of the Manonmaniom Sundaranar University inter-collegiate men's volleyball tournament at the Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar College ground, Pillayarpuram, near Nagercoil on Thursday. Only three matches were decided out of the nine, scheduled for the day.

The results: M.D.T. Hindu (Tiruenlveli) bt Lakshmipuram Arts (Neyyoor) 25-7, 25-15; S.T. Hindu (Nagecoil) bt Arulmigu Panirupidi Ayyan (Nanguneri) 25-16, 27-25; Pioneer Kumarasamy (Nagercoil) bt Mano (Puliyankudi) 25-16, 25-15.
