It's "Gandhigiri" all the way

FLAVOUR OF THE SEASON: "Lage Raho Munna Bhai"

Mahatma Gandhi was the inspiration behind Bollywood's recent mega hit "Lage Raho Munna Bhai'' and now it is the film that is inspiring a virtual revolution of sorts. "Gandhigiri" is the latest magic mantra inspiring unusual protests and discussions with a difference.

While students and resident doctors at the country's premier medical institution, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), followed the rather unique "Gandhigiri" mode of protest on Wednesday when the Institute president and Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss came over to review the dengue situation, the film is also inspiring several discussions in the city.

Hoping to give the future managers something to think about and learn from, the Birla Institute of Management Technology is organising a discussion in Delhi on "Gandhigiri: Lessons for Business Management''. No need to say, the discussion is inspired by the film.

To be held at the Indian National Science Academy on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg on Saturday, the discussion is expected to see the participation of several speakers including noted Gandhian Tushar Gandhi.

It will throw light on various issues including "How do Gandhian thoughts apply to the real world of business and management?", "Why is it important to imbibe Gandhigiri in everyday worklife?", "How do Indian businesses fare on the principles of truth and transparency?", "What can management schools adopt in their curriculum from Gandhigiri?" and "Are honesty, ethics and spirituality an integral part of B-school education?" Apparently it is time to look back and ponder over ideas that impacted India in a big way in the past. -- Bindu Shajan Perappadan
