Allied Co-education School triumphs

NEW DELHI: Kathmandu's Allied Co-education School registered a 1-0 victory over Chandigarh's Government Model School and claimed the Subroto Cup (under-14) football title here on Thursday.

Bishal Rai scored the winner in the 39th minute. The Kathmandu boys set up the move with K.C. Sushil finding Suman Khadka upfront on the left flank. Khadka wasted no time in sending the ball to the centre of the penalty box from where Rai's right-footed diagonal grounder beat Model School's custodian Sehnaj Singh.

This was Rai's sixth goal of the competition. He also walked away with the distinction of having scored winning goals in the semifinal and the final.

Allied School also became the third Nepalese team after ANFA Academy (1999) and Gyanodaya Bal Batika School (2004) to win the Cup since its inception in 1998.

Hat-trick for Gaurav

Gaurav Nadrajog beat Parthiban Aiyappan 10-8, 9-3, 9-4 in the final of the DDA Open squash tournament on Thursday. Nandrajog made it a hat-trick of titles thus.

Shubhra Aggarwal won the women's title beating Aakriti Sehgal 9-2, 9-1, 9-6.

Boys: U-19: Farman Khan bt Suhail Kapoor 9-3, 9-3, 4-9, 7-9, 10-8. U-17: Karm Kumar bt Varun Prakash 9-8, 4-9, 9-1, 9-4. U-13: Deepak Kumar bt Kush Kumar 9-7, 9-6, 10-8.

Women: Shubhra Aggarwal bt Akriti Sehgal 9-2, 9-1, 9-6. Girls: U-17: Aakriti Sehgal bt Divya Kumar 9-1, 9-0, 9-0.
