BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Thursday said he had issued strict instructions to officials in Dakshina Kannada to take immediate action against the culprits who orchestrated the violence in Mangalore and some other parts of Dakshina Kannada district. Speaking to presspersons after the inauguration of a convention for gazetted probationary officers, Mr. Kumaraswamy dismissed the Congress' allegations about the Government's handling of the communal clashes and their aftermath. "I ask them what happened when they were in power, and how many riots and violent incidents took place and how they handled it? We have brought the situation under control in a very short time and with hardly any casualties." Mr Kumaraswamy said anti-social elements were responsible for the violence and refused to comment on reports that Home Minister M.P. Prakash had found evidence of the Sangh Parivar's involvement in provoking the outbreak of violence. "I have spoken to leaders of all communities, and they have all promised to maintain the peace and not be provoked by any attempts by anti-social elements to create disharmony," Mr. Kumaraswamy said.
