KURNOOL: The Telugu Desam Party leaders and supporters conducted a demonstration and burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister here on Thursday. They demanded dismissal of the Government owning moral responsibility for Supreme Court ruling against clemency granted to Congress leader Gouru Venkata Reddy. The TDP leaders, led by coordination committee leader S.V. Mohan Reddy, took out a rally from the TDP office to NTR circle and burnt the effigy. Mr. Mohan Reddy said the Government had no moral right to continue in power after indictment by the Supreme Court. He alleged that the Government brought pressure on the officers and got a report prepared which had no legal sanctity and misled the office of Governor. The episode amply indicated the collapse of the governing system in the State. Party leaders A. Ramakrishna, B. Ananthaiah and others were present. KADAPA: The Telugu Desam Party functionaries burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and staged dharna before Collectorate on Thursday. They demanded his resignation on the clemency issue. The Government should own up responsibility for getting remission granted to Mr. Venkata Reddy in an unconstitutional manner and against rules, TDP Politburo Member K. Sivananda Reddy alleged. Deploring the Chief Minister's contention that the apex court did not find fault with his Government, he accused the Government of misguiding the Governor with dubious reports. Dr. Reddy jeopardised the Constitutional powers of recommending remission to a convict, TDP State Minority Cell Chairman V.S. Ameer Babu alleged. The Chief Minister was nonchalant at remarks passed by the High Court and Supreme Court in several cases, TDP town president B. Hari Prasad alleged. TDP leaders B. Hanmanthu, S. Subhan Basha and M. Venkataswamy demanded that Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde quit politics.
