Engineering department computerised

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has computerised the working of its Engineering Department to speed up sanctioning of building plans in the Capital. Implemented at a cost of Rs.80 lakhs, the project has been initiated in two civic zones on a trial basis. Called "Engineering Department Information System" (EDIS), its software has been designed and developed by Mumbai-based ABM Knowledgeware Ltd. Once the software is fully implemented, it would help the Engineering Department improve its service and give timely replies to public queries.

L-G promises more squash venues

NEW DELHI: Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi on Thursday said the Delhi Development Authority would construct state-of-the-start squash venues at Siri Fort Sports Complex for the Commonwealth Games-2010. Mr. Joshi announced this while giving away awards to the winners of the 13th DDA Open Squash Tournament here.

Mr. Joshi said squash, given the availability of courts, was well within the reach of the common man.

Winner of the men's category, Gaurav Nandrajog, received Rs. 45,000, while the winner of the women's category, Shubhra Aggrawal, got Rs. 12,000.

Bid to create awareness for AIDS

NEW DELHI: The Central Reserve Police Force Wives' Welfare Organisation, recognising the threat of HIV/AIDS to the force personnel and their families, has launched a multi-dimensional programme for HIV/AIDS awareness, drug de-addiction and has associated itself closely with various government bodies working in the area.

The Organisation will highlight its programmes at the three-day annual welfare exhibition at CRPF ground to be held from Saturday, October 14.

The exhibition will also showcase and put on sale the handicrafts produced by the Family Welfare Centre of Central Reserve Police Force.

Plea for separate Gondwana State

NEW DELHI: Gonda Yuva Vahini and Gondwana Mukti Sena activists have submitted a memorandum to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam demanding a separate Gondwana State.

The activists, led by Gonda Yuva Vahini convenor Dilip Dhuria, urged the Government to take the matter seriously.
