NEW DELHI: The prosecution in the Jessica Lal murder case on Thursday reiterated before the Delhi High Court that the conduct of prime accused Siddharth Vashishtha alias Manu Sharma immediately after the incident strengthened its case that it was he who had shot ramp model Jessica Lal. Further arguing on the Delhi police's appeal against the acquittal of Manu Sharma and eight others by the trial court, Ms. Gupta submitted that the prime accused had run away from the spot with his friends leaving behind his Tata Safari. She stated that Manu had remained elusive for five days before surrendering in a Chandigarh court. Ms. Gupta further stated that the investigating agency had conducted raids at his residence in Chandigarh, farmhouse at Samalka village in Delhi and his company, Piccadily Agro Industries in Karnal, but he was not available at these places and no information was provided by his family to the police team sent to conduct the raids.
`Phone conversations'
Besides, Manu Sharma and his accomplices had talked to one another over telephone the day after the incident that proved that he was the culprit, Ms. Gupta submitted. Upon this, the Bench observed that the prosecution had with them their mobile numbers only, not the contents of the conversation they had held among themselves.
