No Central Government holiday

CHENNAI: The Central Government has not declared holiday for its offices in Tamil Nadu, where local body elections are scheduled to be

held on Friday.

According to an official press release, all Central Government offices will function as usual

on Friday. Meanwhile, the CPI (M) has brought to the notice of the State Election Commission, the Centre's notification and urged the Commission to ensure holiday for the Central offices in the State to enable the staff to vote.

Elected

R. Subramaniam has been chosen as the president of Hamsadhwani and M. Gopalakrishnan as patron-in-chief for a three-year term at a meeting held recently at Youth Hostel, Adyar. The other members who would be serving for a three-year term are N. Ramakrishnan, treasurer and R. Ramacandran and T.R. Gopalan, secretaries.

Closed for elections

Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre and B.M. Birla Planetarium will be closed on Friday on account of local body elections in the city.

Open house meeting

An open house meeting will be organised by Chennai Metrowater on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the area offices and adjacent urbanised area office. The public can present their complaints about water supply and sewage removal to the officials concerned. They can also clarify their doubts regarding water, sewerage tax and water charges. at the meeting.

The areas are Kodungaiyur and Tondiarpet - I, Royapuram and Washermenpet - II, Perambur and Vyasarpadi - III, Kilpauk and Ayanavaram - IV, Anna Nagar and Mogappair - V, Chepauk and Triplicane - VI, Chetpet and Nungambakkam - VII, T. Nagar and Kodambakkam - VIII, Saidapet and Kotturpuram - IX, Alwarpet and Mylapore - X A, Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur, Velachery-X B. The adjacent urbanised area office for Mogappair East/West, Anna Nagar Extensions I and II is on T.S. Krishna Nagar Main Road, Mogappair.

A superintending engineer will chair the meeting.
