BANGALORE: A newly married man surrendered before the Varthur police in Bangalore Rural district on Thursday morning after allegedly murdering his wife and his paternal cousin, who reportedly had an affair with her. The police said that around 9.30 a.m. Hanumantharaju (25), whose clothes were stained with blood, walked into the Varthur police station with a chopper in his hand. He told the police that a few minutes ago he had hacked to death his wife Venkatalakshmi (18) at his house in Shivanapura village on the outskirts of the city, the police said. He said he had murdered Venkatalakshmi as she had an affair with his paternal cousin Manjunath (20), who lived next door. On questioning, Hanumantharaju confessed that on Sunday night he had hacked Manjunath to death near Gundur village, the police said.
Newly married
Hanumantharaju, a farmer and a construction worker, had married Venkatalakshmi four months ago. She was from Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu. On the information given by him, the police traced Manjunath's putrefied body in a bush on the banks of the Pinakini near Gundur. The police said Hanumantharaju had taken his cousin to the secluded area on the pretext of repairing an irrigation pump set at a farm and murdered him. Manjunath was a farmer and a construction worker. The police have shifted the two bodies to hospital for autopsy. The Varthur police have arrested Hanumantharaju and registered two cases of murder against him.
