Eco-friendly building material in demand

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Green Buildings are not just eco-friendly; the material and technology that go into their making is becoming big business too.

R. Parasurman, Indian Green Building Council Chairman and Vice-Chairman of World Green Building Council, on Thursday said: "Green building materials market in the world is about 10 per cent of the building material business, about $ 3 billion, but is doubling each year because of demand."

Speaking at the inauguration of the Green Building Congress 2006, being held here from October 12 to 15, he cited examples such as composting toilets, waterless urinals, daylight saving windows, cooling towers that substitute for air conditioning and recycled steel and aluminium components. `
