Well deserved

Kiran Desai richly deserves the Man Booker Prize for her second novel The Inheritance of Loss. By winning the prize that her mother Anita Desai narrowly missed thrice, she has proved that children can translate their parents' dreams into reality. Hats off to the worthy daughter of a worthy mother.

It has been proved yet again that Indian writers can dream in English. I am amazed at the wonderful coincidence of Kiran Desai bagging the Booker Prize on the same day as R.K. Narayan's centenary. What a tribute to the great master of literature!

Ms. Desai has reaped the fruits of resilience and patience. Her feat will certainly motivate budding writers.
