Police disperse protesters in Imphal

IMPHAL: Police and paramilitary personnel on Friday dispersed groups of people who tried to launch sit-in protests in front of the Raj Bhavan, offices of the Chief Minister and other Ministers, demanding repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

They were stopped near Khuyathong and Kwakeithel and asked to go back.

The agitation was organised by the Working Committee of Apunba Lup, apex body of all NGOs in the State. Several people, led by Opposition MLA Laisom Ibomcha launched a sit-in protest at Keishmapat demanding repeal of the Act.
