NEW DELHI : The Bharatiya Janata Party demanded on Friday that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad should resign or the Prime Minister should drop him from the Cabinet following the quashing of the Bannerjee Committee report on the Godhra train fire by the Gujarat High Court.Party general secretary and spokesperson Arun Jaitley said here: "The High Court has held the Bannerjee inquiry illegal and unconstitutional, particularly because the Nanavati Commission was already instituted and criminal prosecution of the offenders was pending." The High Court ruling vindicated the BJP's stand that the Bannerjee Committee was appointed for political considerations "to help the accused in the Godhra Sabarmati Express fire carnage case," he said. Earlier, the courts had, through an order, prevented the tabling in Parliament of the committee report, which said the Godhra train fire was the result of an accident rather than deliberate mischief.
