Power tariff may go up by 40 paise a unit

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) is scheduled to announce the new electricity tariff on Monday.

It is learnt that the tariff increase is expected to be less than 40 paise a unit since the five electricity supply companies had themselves requested for an increase of not more than that in their applications submitted to the commission a few weeks ago.

Irrigation pumpsets and the Bhagya Jyothi and Kuteera Jyothi installations are expected to be kept out of the tariff increase.

The KERC received 11,000 objections from various quarters to the tariff increase sought by the electricity supply companies. It conducted public hearings in Bangalore, Raichur, Gulbarga, Belgaum, Mangalore, Shimoga and Mysore.
