MYSORE: A handbook on employment information and its CD version brought out by the Mysore University Employment Guidance Bureau was released here by university Vice-Chancellor J. Shashidhar Prasad on Friday.

On the occasion, Prof. Prasad said that the employment guidance bureau should guide the students on subjects based on their capacity and ability to pursue it. He said the bureau should work on a project to have a website on career opportunities.

He said the students should have an open mind to go abroad and pursue higher education and look for career opportunities.

The handbook on employment information brought by the bureau covers wide-ranging areas and careers. The handbook has identified 38 broad areas under which hundreds of career options and job opportunities have been marked in detail.

The handbook has been compiled following a decision taken in this regard during a meeting of respective college unit heads. In the light of growing competition, the Mysore University had directed all the colleges to start similar employment and career guidance cells and appoint a faculty member to provide guidance and counselling to students. The handbook is a follow-up of the project taken up by the varsity. Former Chairman of Mysore Agenda Task Force (MATF), R. Guru, university Registrar B.J. Hosmath, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education Srihari, and deputy chief of employment bureau G.N. Shivamurthy, were present.
