Bangalore: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi inaugurated Bangalore University's new Evaluation Centre on Friday. The university has to handle the evaluation of 10 lakh answer scripts of undergraduate students and 3.5 answer papers of postgraduate students every six months under the semester system. The new centre is expected to speed up the process with more answer papers being dealt with simultaneously.
Courses launched
The Governor also launched 11 postgraduate courses introduced from the academic year 2006-07. Six of the courses lead to master's degrees, four are postgraduate diploma courses and one is a certificate course. Speaking at the event on the university's Jnanabharati campus, Mr. Chaturvedi said the examination system should keep pace with innovations in technology, so that results were error-free. "The examination system should have honesty, integrity and be fair. Unless the exam system resolves the question of credibility, the education system will have little meaning," he remarked. Excellence in education with relevance should be the aim. Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath explained the utility of the new evaluation centre against the backdrop of the increase in the number of affiliated colleges and students. He asked members of the faculty to make the new courses more relevant and meaningful. Registrar (Evaluation) T.A. Parthasarathy, Registrar R.M.N. Sahai, Finance Officer H.L. Somasekhar and Pudalika Halambi, president of the Non-Teaching Staff Association, were among those present.
