BANGALORE: A vegetable vendor was waylaid and hacked to death in Varthur police station limits in Bangalore Rural district in the early hours of Friday. The police gave the name of the victim as Sreenivasa (35), a resident of Sorahunase village. Sreenivasa left his house around 4 a.m. on his motorcycle to buy vegetables from HAL Market. He was stopped on Varthur tank bund and attacked with choppers. Sreenivasa's brother-in-law Seena, who was passing by around 4.15 a.m., noticed a person lying in a pool of blood. On finding that it was his brother-in-law, Seena rushed Sreenivasa to Bowring Hospital. He was declared brought dead there, the police said. The Varthur police have registered a case.
Salesman killed
Tamil Selvam (21), a salesman, was killed in a road accident on Hennur Ring Road, off the Forest Department office, on Friday morning. The police said that after a mini lorry rammed Selvam's motorcycle, the two-wheeler hit a bus that was ahead of it. Selvam, a resident of Ramamurthynagar, was killed on the spot.
House burgled
Burglars struck at Ibrahim Sharief's house on M.M. Road in Fraser Town police station limits and looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 1.60 lakh.
The incident took place on Wednesday night when Sharief, a real estate agent and a caterer, had gone to Tamil Nadu.
Pirated DVDs seized
The Central Crime Branch staff on Thursday arrested five people who were allegedly selling pirated VCDs and DVDs on pavements at K.R. Market bus stand. The police seized from them 3,360 VCDs and DVDs, together estimated at Rs. 6.61 lakh.
