DSS hails decision

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsha Samiti has welcomed the decision of the State Government to introduce English from first standard from the next academic year.

Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, Lakshminarayan Nagwara, State convener of the samiti, said that knowledge of English was very important today.

Mr. Nagwara also said that Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Chandrashekhar Patil had in a sense betrayed the Dalits by opposing the Government's move to introduce English from first standard. "We have immense respect for him, as he is great litterateur. But why does he not want our children to study English, when his children have all studied in English medium and are now settled abroad," he asked.
