Delhi to seek release of fresh water into the Yamuna

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Asserting that all arrangements had been put in place for celebration of the two-day Chhat Puja festival in Delhi beginning October 27, Revenue and Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan on Saturday said he would be writing to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda seeking release of fresh water into the Yamuna during the puja time.

Mr. Chauhan, who undertook a review of the preparations for the festival, was responding to a demand made by the Poorvanchal leader and senior Congress MLA Mahabal Mishra. Mr. Mishra had said that since the major ghats along the Yamuna were used by lakhs of people for performing holy rituals during the Chhat festival it was important that apart from undertaking a cleanliness drive at these ghats the Delhi Government should write to the Haryana Government for release of fresh water as the present situation in the Yamuna bed and its ghats was not very good.

Mr. Chauhan said the matter was already under his consideration and he would take appropriate action soon.
