KOLLAM: The 17th State conference of All India Youth Federation (AIYF) began here on Friday with the arrival of the flag, banner, flag mast and torch marches from different part of the State. CPI leader Pannian Ravindran, MP, inaugurated the banner march from the P.K. Vasudevan Nair smrithi mandapam. CPI leader Thoppil Gopalakrishnan inaugurated the flag rally from the Vayalar Martyrs Mandapam and AIYF leader Sony B. Thengamam received the flag. Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran inaugurated the flagmast march from the Comrade Jayaprakash Martyrs Mandapam and CPI leader K.S. Ananadan inaugurated the torch jatha from the Sooranad Martyrs Mandapam. All the four jathas reached the Thirunellur Karunakaran Nagar set up at the Press Club Maidan here on Friday night. AIYF State president P.S. Supal hoisted the conference flag at the Thirunellur Karunakaran Nagar. The conference formalities commenced with a colourful youth rally on Saturday attended by thousands of AIYF members. The rally, which began from the Asramam Maidan, was led by Mr. Supal, State secretary V.S. Sunil Kumar, MLA, and other leaders. The youth rally was by all standards a show of strength by the AISF. Members attending the rally raised slogans against the wrong policies being pursued by the United Progress Alliance Government. After passing through the main arteries of Kollam city, the rally culminated at the Quilon Athletic Club grounds where CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan inaugurated a public meeting. CPI leaders K.E. Ismail, Pannian Ravindran, J. Chitharanjan and Mullakkara Ratnakaran and National president of the AIYF Prithipal Singh addressed. The delegates' session will be inaugurated by CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan on Sunday. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate a seminar in the evening.
