KOCHI: The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) has collected 1,46,646 quintals of paddy from the farmers in Kuttanad and Palakkad regions under the State Government's direct Paddy Procurement Scheme for 2006-07. The scheme envisages a good price for the farmers even while ensuring quality rice for consumers through ration shops. A sum of Rs.4.84 crore has been distributed to the farmers as the price of the procured paddy. The procured paddy is being processed in 48 rice mills across the State. A total of 17,458 quintals of rice has already been processed and is ready for distribution. Of this, 1,600 quintals of `Naadan Kuthari' has been made available through the public distribution system, after the necessary quality analysis.
