ANANTAPUR: Farmers of Tadipatri area on Saturday staged a rasta roko and gheraoed Minister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments J.C. Diwakar Reddy, seeking supply of Bengalgram seed. They also alleged large-scale irregularities in the supply of subsidised seed. Supply of alternative crop seed on 50 per cent subsidy, particularly Bengalgram, had run into problems from the day of its launch on September 18. While other seed like sunflower, jowar, maize, greengram, horsegram, etc was being given from September 18, supply of bengalgram was taken up on October 4. Demand for bengalgram seed had been high due to short supply and alleged irregularities. Farmers of Tadipatri rural, Pedda Pappur, Yadiki, Pedda Vadugur, Yellanur and Putlur mandals were being supplied seed from Tadipatri market yard centre. Farmers gathered at the sales point and found meagre stocks. They blocked the Kadapa-Bellary road for about two hours and also gheraoed the Minister when he was passing by in his vehicle.
