DAVANGERE: The Cooperative Banks Union has decided to send a delegation to meet representatives of the Union Government and Reserve Bank of India seeking decentralisation of the cooperative banks and rebate in income tax to cooperative banks. The decision was taken at a two-day workshop of cooperative banks on the topic "Challenges before the urban cooperative banks", which concluded here on Saturday. Earlier, delegates from different parts of the State discussed the problems plaguing cooperative societies and decided to meet representatives of the Union Government to air their problems. Shyamanur Shivashankarappa, Davangere MLA, and honorary president of the District Urban Cooperative Banks said owing to centralisation, cooperative bankers had to visit Bangalore for petty cases. Too many restrictions amounted to interference in the affairs of the banks, he added.
