MANGALORE: Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate M. Maheshwara Rao has extended prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code banning assembly of more than four persons in all riot-affected areas of Mangalore and Bantwal up to 7 a.m. on Wednesday. Prohibitory orders were imposed up to 7 a.m. on Sunday. The restriction directing all shops and commercial establishments to close down by 10 p.m. has been withdrawn. The step has been taken to enable people to go about their normal lives and in view of improvement in law and order situation in Mangalore police sub-division limits. These places were placed under curfew during the riots.
Four arrested
Four persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of Gafoor, a cleric from Sullia, on October 6. They have been identified as Vijayprakash (24) of Kumpala, Padmaraj (23) of Barebail, Gopala of Belthangady and Pramod Suvarna (18), of Venoor in Belthangady taluk. Police have seized a motorcycle reportedly used by the accused in the incident, according to a press release. The investigation of the Polali murder case registered in Bantwal Rural police station has been handed over to the Corps of Detectives. Thirteen persons have been arrested in connection with the murder case.
