Conference on obesity in children

NEW DELHI: Delhi Health and Family Welfare Minister Yoganand Shastri on Saturday said incidence of overweight and obesity in children was increasing due to a shift of population from rural areas to urban areas and changes in lifestyle and food habits.

Addressing a conference here on "Management and Presentation of Children and Obesity through Nutrition Strategies and Physical Activity", Dr. Shastri said it was important to change the lifestyles and encourage children to get involved in outdoor games and exercise.

"Discourses on Occult Sciences"

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh on Saturday said that Indian spiritualism inherited by great saints, yogis and mediators had taught the world the great ways of leading a healthy and stress-free life.

Inaugurating a seminar on "Discourses on Occult Sciences" at Tilak Marg here, Mr. Singh said India's priceless spiritual and cultural heritage along with its scientific and philosophical traditions needed to be treasured.

IGNOU extends last date for forms

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University has extended the last date for submission of application forms up to October 25 with late fees of Rs.200 for Bachelor of Computer Applications, Master of Computer Applications and Master of Arts (Distance Education).

The forms can be downloaded from IGNOU website at www.ignou.ac.in.

New arrival

NEW DELHI: Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal released the first issue of an English magazine titled "Manorama Tell Me Why" at a function here earlier this week.

Launched by the Malayala Manorama group, the new publication will give a wide range of information in a style children will find simple and delightful.
