NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has acquitted an accused in a kidnapping-cum-rape case following a statement by the victim in the court that she has married the culprit in April this year and both have been living together happily. The father of the victim also gave evidence during the trial of the case that he had no objection to his daughter marrying the accused. Acquitting accused Harjeet Singh of Amritsar, Additional Sessions Judge Narottam Kaushal said that nothing incriminating had come on record against the accused in the statements of the prosecution witnesses. "Since the victim as well as her father have not supported the case of the prosecution, accused Harjeet is acquitted'', the Judge said in his judgment. According to the prosecution, Harbhajan Singh, father of the victim, had in September 2005 lodged a complaint with the Nangloi police in West Delhi that his daughter was missing. He suspected that Harjeet Singh had lured his daughter away to his village for marriage. On his complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping for marriage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
