NEW DELHI: The Director-General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development, Kiran Bedi, on Saturday said the Central paramilitary forces should seek more governmental support for the welfare of their jawans who were working in extremely challenging conditions. Speaking at the inauguration of the annual welfare exhibition organised by the Central Reserve Police Force Wives' Welfare Association (CWWA), Dr. Bedi said no economic development is possible without security. To ensure full efficiency of the personnel and give them a dignified life, the police leadership should focus on their work conditions and welfare. Dr. Bedi also pointed out that in many ways the challenges before a CRPF jawan were greater than those faced by Army personnel as they had to fight the hidden enemy while protecting the civilians from getting harmed. Such difficult situations and long stints away from the family make things tough for the CRPF jawans and therefore there was a need to take a greater care of their basic needs, said Dr. Bedi. CWWA president Rashmi Sinha said the Association was working towards developing public awareness about AIDS and alcoholism. With a number of non-government organisations and United Nations organisations offering their expertise, the Association had been able to devise many programmes in this connection, she added.
