NEW DELHI: Asserting that all arrangements had been put in place for celebration of the two-day Chhat Puja festival in Delhi beginning October 27, Revenue and Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan on Saturday said he would be writing to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda seeking release of fresh water into the Yamuna during the puja time. Mr. Chauhan, who undertook a review of the preparations for the festival, was responding to a demand made by the Poorvanchal leader and senior Congress MLA Mahabal Mishra. Mr. Mishra had said that since the major ghats along the Yamuna are used by lakhs of people for performing holy rituals during the Chhat festival it was important that apart from undertaking a cleanliness drive at these ghats the Delhi Government should write to the Haryana Government for release of fresh water as the present situation of the Yamuna bed and its ghats was not very good. Mr. Chauhan said the matter was already under his consideration and he would take appropriate action soon. At the same time, Mr. Mishra also urged Mr. Chauhan to constitute a separate Chhat Puja committee that could hold the celebrations of the festival on a larger scale in future. Mr. Mishra said the Poorvanchal people had been traditionally supporting the Congress and it was the duty of the Govt. to ensure that their interests are protected.
