NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday disclosed that the Delhi Government was planning to set up a task force for various departments to improve their functioning and enhance the public services delivery system. The task force would address the issues of removing bottlenecks in ensuring an effective delivery mechanism for the common man.
Agencies
Addressing the concluding session of a three-day Bhagidari workshop on "Improving Public Service Delivery'' in which 240 officers from 58 public dealing departments and agencies took part, Ms. Dikshit said the "Bhagidari'' scheme had gained the desired momentum and helped in empowerment of people in the city. "The success of this scheme is inspiring other States to adopt this unique model of government-citizen partnership." The movement, she added, was started with an objective to involve people in decision-making at various levels of the Government. Ms. Dikshit called upon the Bhagidars to seriously concentrate on strengthening the movement and sincerely try to maintain its apolitical status. The Chief Minister said a large number of public services by her Government had been made available online. "The people have been provided a mechanism to interact with the Government even sitting at their workplace or home without having to undertake the painful process of visiting Government offices." Ms. Dikshit said the Right to Information Act had proved to be an effective instrument to obtain information from Government offices and it was working splendidly in Delhi. The RTI Act had led to transparency and openness in the administration. Describing RTI as a revolutionary beginning, she said it had helped in making the administration responsive, effective, people-friendly and answerable.
Citizen
At the same time she also said that citizen charters had been exhibited in 75 major departments having direct contact with people. This had helped people keep abreast of the latest situation in a particular department.
