Virbhadra Government accepts junior engineers' demand

Mandi: The Himachal Pradesh Government on Saturday accepted the long- pending demand of junior engineers of the State Electricity Board to increase their promotion quota from the existing 32 per cent to 36 per cent and also announced a phone allowance of Rs 200 for them.

Addressing the silver jubilee function and the ninth general conference of HPSEB junior engineers here, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said the Government would also consider the demand for one-time relaxation in qualifying service for promotion as assistant engineer. He said the Government was giving priority to hydro-power development and out of 20,386 mw identified hydel potential, 6,066 mw had so far been tapped while projects with 5,385 mw potential were in various stages of execution.

Global tenders would be floated for the remaining projects and the power potential of the State re-identified, he said.

He claimed that after complete utilisation of the full hydro-power potential, the State would remain power surplus for next 100 years and would also be able to meet the demands of neighbouring states.

Referring to industrialisation, he said that Himachal was emerging as pharmaceutical hub of the country.
