NALGONDA: Finance and Health Minister K. Rosaiah directed officials of health and rural water supply departments to work in tandem to prevent the spread of malaria and dengue in the district.

Participating at a review meeting at the Collectorate here on Saturday, Mr. Rosaiah called for more coordination between various Government agencies to tackle the spread of mysterious fevers.

"There is no truth in the propaganda launched by the Opposition parties. The State Government is in constant touch with the Centre and is ready to meet any eventuality," he told the officials.

Mr. Rosaiah instructed the district machinery to undertake a massive awareness campaign on good health practices - involving students, youth and non-governmental organisations.

He wanted the officials to fan across the district, particularly to the rural areas, where superstitions are prevalent.

    Funds released

Responding to the request for more funds to the district by MLA Julakanti Ranga Reddy, the Health Minister said: We just released Rs. 10 lakhs to each district and asked the district administration to hire 20 vehicles.

Funds will not be a problem, the Minister said.

Mr. Rosaiah further pointed out that the State Government had appointed 1,089 doctors on regular pay scale and is contemplating to appoint another 93 with an additional allowance of Rs 3,000 per month to work in the agency areas.

Later, the Health Minister went round the town and inspected the Government hospital. He interacted with doctors and patients.

MLA K. Venkat Reddy, Collector K. Vijayanand, Principal Secretary (Health) Agarwal, Director of Health Services P. Venkateswar Rao and others were present.
