3 VDC members kidnapped in Doda
Jammu:
Militants kidnapped three Village Defence Committee (VDC) members and lobbed grenades on the house of a surrendered militant in separate incidents in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here on Saturday.
A group of heavily armed militants kidnapped three VDC members from the remote village of Grather in Doda district on Friday night, they said adding the militants also snatched the weapons of these members before taking them to an unknown destination.
A joint search operation was launched on Saturday morning by the Rashtriya Rifles troops and Special Task Force of the police to trace the abductees. In another incident in the same district, militants hurled two grenades on the house of a surrendered militant, Nissar Ahmed, at Gowri village in Gandoh tehsil on Friday last evening.
One of the grenades exploded in the compound of Nissar's house but there was no loss of life or damage to property, they said.
Reports from Udhampur district said that a joint team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the STF had a brief encounter with militants at Sangaldan in Dhamkund area last night.
However, the militants fled away leaving behind one AK rifle with one magazine and 20 rounds. PTI
