MANGALORE: Chairman of Wakf Board Khalid Ahmed on Saturday said that the violent incidents that took place in the city and its outskirts recently were not related to any clash between Hindus and Muslims. Addressing presspersons, he said that there was no clash between Hindus and Muslims here as was projected. "If someone says that there was a clash between Hindus and Muslims, it is an insult to people of both the communities. It appears that `some bad elements' were involved in the incidents and it is not a clash between people of the two communities, " he said. Mr. Ahmed said it was up to the Government to find out reasons for the violence. It was sad that such incidents took place in Dakshina Kannada that was known for its educational standards and good administration, he said. Mr. Ahmed said that it was important to maintain peace in society. All should contribute to maintain peace. He appealed to the people not to heed rumours. "Some people are spreading rumours through SMS. People should keep away from such rumours," he said. The need of the hour was not indulging in "blame game" but to maintain peace, he said. Mr. Ahmed urged the Government to give compensation to all the victims of violence. He demanded an impartial inquiry into the incidents.
