According to the police, Kanwar Jahan, a resident of Janata Colony in North-East Delhi, approached Noor-ul-Islam on Friday when someone told her about "the miracle performing baba". Kanwar Jahan's 17-year-old daughter had been suffering from thyroid and she thought the "baba" might cure her. However, the "baba" asked her to leave her gold bangles, earrings and some other ornaments with him for "purification". Kanwar Jahan readily gave away her ornaments to the accused. He then slipped away from her house. The police managed to arrest him on Saturday. They could recover only Rs. 6,000 from his possession as he had managed to sell the jewellery on Friday itself.
