DMRC carries out mock drill

Staff Reporter

Evacuation of passengers in the event of a bomb explosion on train

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation carried out a mock drill over the weekend to check the preparedness of the system in swiftly evacuating passengers to safety in the event of a bomb explosion on the train.

According to the DMRC, the drill was carried out in the underground stretch on a train between Patel Chowk and Rajiv Chowk.

The train operator informed the DMRC Operation Control Centre (OCC) that a "bomb" had "exploded" in the last coach of the train leading to a fire and "injuring" several passengers.

Immediately, the power supply to the overhead equipment was switched off and the Metro OCC informed the disaster management group of Delhi Metro, the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi police, Bomb Disposal Squad and senior officers of DMRC.

In the meantime, the train operator issued "instructions" to the passengers over the public address system to help maintain calm.

The tunnel ventilation fans were immediately switched on and passengers "detrained" through the emergency door of the train. The "passengers" were then taken to Rajiv Chowk station where all the escalators were made to move in upward direction to ensure quick evacuation of the injured "passengers" and other commuters
