BANGALORE: The police on Saturday seized a car that was allegedly fitted with a fake number plate and they are questioning its owner in this regard. The police said that a woman from Basavanagudi had lodged a complaint that she was frequently receiving notices from the automation centre of the traffic police that her car, a Maruti WagonR (KA-05 MA-3541), was involved in traffic violations. She paid the fine on some occasions assuming that her driver or her son, who had used the car, could have committed traffic violations. But she received similar notices recently though the car was not used for nearly two months, the police said. Sensing something fishy, the police started looking for a car with an identical number plate. On Saturday, the police found a Santro-LE car with a number plate KA-05 MA- 3541 on Mission Road. The police seized the vehicle, which had a "Press" sticker on its windscreen, and detained its owner Sanjay of Fraser Town for questioning. According to the police, the original registration number of the seized Santro-LE car was KA-03 MA-3541. During questioning, Sanjay claimed that the painter had wrongly painted the number, "05" instead of "03," the police said. The police are investigating.
