Computers, furniture destroyed in fire

BANGALORE: As many as 103 computers and furniture, together estimated at Rs. 15 lakh, were destroyed in a major fire that broke out at R.V. College of Engineering on Mysore Road in the early hours of Saturday.

The police said the fire was noticed around 1 a.m. at the Internet browsing centre of the college on the first floor of the library block. Four fire tenders rushed to put out the fire.

Raided

The Jayanagar police on Friday raided a sports centre in 4th Block, Jayanagar, and arrested 17 youths on charges of betting on billiards and snooker games played at the centre.

Pirated DVDs seized

The South division police on Friday conducted simultaneous raids on 21 shops and seized 5,171 pirated VCDs and DVDs, all worth Rs. 10 lakh, of Kannada, Telugu, Hindi and Tamil movies.The raids were conducted on shops in Hanumanthanagar, Girinagar, Chamarajpet, Kumaraswamy Layout, Subramanyapura, Adugodi and Siddapura police station limits.
