Calangute (Goa): Kazakhstan dominated the second Asian junior boxing championship winning seven of the 11 finals here on Sunday. After India began on a promising note when Paramjit Singh and H. Santosh won the light flyweight and the flyweight categories, Kazakhstan's Bashenov literally bashed India's Santosh Singh. Santosh came up with a carbon copy of his performance in the semifinal. Pitted against Akbari of Iran, the Indian trailed in the first round and fought back to be just one point adrift in the second. Akbari, with better technique and style, looked like he was consolidating the match after taking the lead in the third round. Santosh came out charging in the final round and landed a series of lethal punches to outscore the Iranian (30-25) in the final round.
Good win
Paramjit Singh had earlier opened the account for India with a comprehensive win over Kazakhstan's Kaby Lehanev who received a bye into the final. Paramjit's crosses and combination left-right punches kept him ahead on points of the rusty Kazakh boxer.
Chottelal aggressive
India's Chottelal was at his aggressive best against Bat-Ochir of Mongolia. The two had earlier fought in Morocco last when Chottelal won quite easily. Chottelal with his slam-bang style kept on collecting points in every round to win with a huge margin of 20 points. Kazakh's Serikov was too good for Iran's Sattar Poor and the latter took a severe pounding to lose 16-36. Kazakhstan's heavyweight boxers Levit and Cherinikov proved to be too good for the Indian heavyweights. Levit outpunched and outpointed P. Samotha while Cherinikov was declared winner in the third round itself. The results (all finals): Light flyweight: Paramjit Singh (Ind) bt Kaby Lehanev (Laz) 29-20; Flyweight: H. Santosh (Ind) bt Akbari (Irn) 30-25; Bantamweight: Bashenov (Kaz) bt S.
